📜 History and legend

Josephine's Bathtub owes its name to Josephine de Beauharnais (1763-1814), born in Martinique and who became Empress of the French.


There is no proof that she bathed there, but the romantic legend persists: this sandbar was for a long time the haunt of fishermen and browsers came to drop anchor in its calm waters before inviting the first visitors.
